Affiliate Marketing, The New Frontier

We have all seen the people on the street corners with signs directing you to visit the new home development down the street, or to get your taxes done by the guy in the shopping center behind them, or to have lunch at the pizza place around the corner. It is a newer style of marketing where another person is paid to direct you to a particular business. This type of marketing is often successful and catches people's attention. A similar practice is done in the internet world. You may be on my website/ street corner and I will direct you to another site/ business which has products or services I recommend. Just as I would call my best friend and tell her about my favorite new restaurant or shoe store, I am showing my visitors the way to find some great things I have found. On planet internet, this is called affiliate marketing and many people have made a living out of this type of referral system. Is this something you might be able to do?

So, how do you get started? There are millions of sites that claim to have the secret to becoming a successful affiliate. One that I have found beneficial is pay dotcom. Yes there is a membership fee, and of course you?ll have to buy a book to learn how to set up the ads on your site. As they say, no pain, no gain, right? But then again, if there were no work at all involved, or it was free, chances are you would not have any trust in the opportunity. Searching the other sites that claim to teach you about affiliate marketing cannot hurt either. Do as much research as you can including clicking on some affiliate ads you may find along the way. Make note of the ones that catch your attention and why. Essentially, you want to become a customer so you have a insiders understanding of what worked for you. If you clicked on an ad, you probably were not the only one that did. There was something about that ad that made it stand out. Once you find a common thread, you?ll want to incorporate it into your own.

They say you don?t have to be a technical genius to create the ads. Apparently, the instructions are as easy to follow as a recipe. And if you have a found a certain success in the career you currently have, then just remember at some point you had to learn that too. The key, I believe, is not to become overwhelmed. Take it step by step. There are plenty of success stories from affiliate marketers who essentially all say that it is easier than you think.

The bottom line here is that if you put in the time to learn this trade, you will find success. Even if you decide you are only willing to spare a few hours per week, this could prove to be a steady flow of secondary income.
